so ive been flying recreationally for about two years now mostly fpv but i picked up a mavic recently and someone mentioned i should look into getting my part 107 if i want to do any paid work. the problem is i have no idea what the test actually covers or how hard it is. i looked at the FAA website and it was kind of overwhelming honestly. is there like a standard way people study for this or do most people just buy one of those prep courses? also how long did it take you guys to feel ready

honestly its not as bad as the FAA website makes it look. the test is 60 questions, multiple choice, and most of the hard stuff is airspace and weather interpretation. if you already know how to read a sectional chart youre halfway there. i used the free Pilot Institute youtube videos to start and then bought their full course when i decided to take it seriously. took me about 3 weeks of studying maybe an hour a night. the practice tests on their site are really close to the actual exam format so do a lot of those. the actual test felt easier than the practice ones weirdly enough

i just passed mine like two months ago. the airspace stuff is the part most people struggle with including me lol. get comfortable with VFR sectional charts because there are always questions about reading those and figuring out what kind of airspace youre in at a given altitude. also there were a few weather questions i didnt expect, stuff about METARs and TAFs. i used a combination of free stuff and the Remotepilo?101 course. probably overkill but i wanted to be sure. give yourself at least a month if youre starting from scratch
