ok so this was a few weeks ago and im still kind of processing it. was flying near one of the glacier lagoons, jokulsarlon if anyones been, and the wind just absolutely came out of nowhere. like it was calm for 20 minutes and then a gust hit and the thing was just getting pushed sideways faster than i expected. went into sport mode to try and punch through it and managed to get it back but i was maybe 30 seconds from watching it go into the water

iceland is insane to fly in btw, the landscapes are unreal but the weather changes so fast. i was checking windy.com every hour and it still caught me off guard. just wanted to share because i feel like people dont talk enough about how sketchy wind can get when youre chasing scenery in dramatic locations

yeah iceland wind is no joke. i flew there two summers ago and had a similar moment near the black sand beaches. the thermals near the cliffs are weird too, not just straight wind but like swirling unpredictable stuff. beautiful place to fly but you really cant relax for a second

this is why i always check the max wind speed rating on whatever im flying and then mentally subtract like 30% from that as my actual comfort limit. specs say one thing but real world gusty conditions are totally different from steady wind. glad you got it back, losing a drone in a glacial lake would be a rough way to end a trip
