so ive been building out a track in my buddy's warehouse and we keep going back and forth on gate spacing. right now we have some sections that are like 8-9 meters apart which honestly feels pretty good for 3 inch builds but then we threw in a couple gates at maybe 5 meters and it just becomes a mess, everyone's clipping or going way wide to set up for the next turn.

the warehouse is roughly 40x20 meters so not huge but enough to work with. we're mostly running 3 inch toothpicks and one guy on a 5 inch which is already pushing it indoors. should we just ditch the 5 inch sections entirely and design around the smaller quads or is there a way to make it work for both? also wondering if anyone has thoughts on gate height ? we've been keeping everything around 1.5m which seems fine but maybe going taller on straights would add something interesting

5 inch indoors in a 40x20 is already kinda asking for trouble tbh. ive seen people do it but the speed differential between a 3in toothpick and a 5in on a tight course just makes racing kinda awkward ? one guys cruising through sections that the other quad is basically doing a standing stop to navigate. if you want mixed class racing you almost need to build two different lines or at least have the layout favor one class and just accept the other is there for fun.

on the gate spacing thing, 5 meters is brutal for anything trying to carry speed. most indoor tracks i've flown had a minimum of around 7-8m between rhythm gates and then maybe one tight technical chicane section to mix it up. having your whole track that compressed just punishes everyone and makes for messy racing, not necessarily harder skill-wise just frustrating.

gate height is actually something people sleep on. flat same-height tracks get boring fast. even just alternating 1.2m and 1.8m forces pilots to actually adjust their pitch angle through sections and it adds a lot visually too when you're watching. we did a diving gate into a low tunnel section at our last event and it was easily the most talked about part of the track
