ok so i picked up the Mavic 3 Classic last week after going back and forth on it for like three months. coming from a Mini 2 so this is a pretty big jump for me. first impressions are honestly great but i keep second guessing myself on a few things.

main thing bugging me is the return to home altitude. i set it to 40 meters but where i usually fly theres trees that are like 30ish meters and im not 100% sure how it calculates that. does it go up to the set altitude first and THEN come back, or does it do some kind of obstacle avoidance on the way? i had it almost clip a treeline on my Mini once and ive been paranoid ever since.

also does anyone bother with ND filters on this thing or is the camera good enough that you can just fix stuff in post? i shoot mostly landscape stuff, nothing professional.

congrats on the upgrade, the jump from Mini 2 to the Classic is pretty significant especially in terms of the sensor. to answer your RTH question ? yes it climbs to your set altitude first before heading home, so if your trees are 30m you should be fine at 40m but i'd honestly bump it to 50 just to have a buffer. the obstacle avoidance during RTH depends on whether you have it enabled but even then i wouldnt fully rely on it in a dense area, better to just set a safe altitude and not think about it.

on the ND filters thing, i do use them for video but for stills honestly not that necessary. if youre shooting landscapes and doing mostly photos then yeah post works fine. if you ever get into video and want that cinematic motion blur look then a circular polarizer or ND set is worth it, the Freewell ones fit the Classic and arent too pricey.

oh man i had the same exact worry when i started, kept raising my RTH height until it was like 80 meters which is probably overkill but whatever it makes me feel better lol. better safe than sorry honestly especially when you cant always see where the drone is going.
