ok so this is kind of embarrassing but im still pretty new to this and i genuinely didnt know. flew my mini 3 near a state park last weekend, i checked the DJI fly app before going and it showed the area as clear, no red zones or anything. got home and was looking stuff up and apparently some state parks have their own no-fly rules that arent in the app at all?

nothing happened, no one said anything to me, but now im paranoid i broke some rule. how are you supposed to even know about these local rules, like is there a database somewhere or do you just have to call ahead every time. i feel like the apps give you a false sense of security honestly

you're not wrong about the apps. DJI's geofencing only covers FAA airspace stuff basically, it has no idea about state park regs or local ordinances or national forest rules or any of that. ive been flying for like 5 years and i still call ahead or check the specific park's website before going anywhere i havent been before. a lot of state parks in my area flat out ban drones entirely regardless of what the airspace looks like. the FAA airspace being clear and the land use rules being clear are two completely separate things and that trips up a lot of people

same thing happend to me at a county park lol, ranger was pretty cool about it actually once i explained i didnt know but he made me land immediately. some places are really strict and some dont care at all, just depends. i just google the park name + drone now before i go anywhere, usually someone on reddit has already figured it out
