so i binned my 5inch pretty hard into a concrete wall last weekend, total brain fart moment, was trying to squeeze through a gap i had no business going through at that speed. the arm snapped clean off, took the motor with it, and i think the ESC on that corner might be toast too but im not 100% sure how to tell.

ive replaced motors before on a whoop but never had to deal with a broken arm on a full size freestyle build. the frame is a TBS Source One if that matters. i ordered a replacement arm already but now im sitting here looking at the ESC and the solder pads look a little scorched, like not totally black but definitely not clean either. does that mean its definitely dead or could it just be from the impact heat? i dont have an oscilloscope or anything fancy, just a multimeter.

also the motor that was on that arm, the bell is cracked but the stator looks okay to me visually. is there any point trying to salvage it or should i just toss it and put a new one on

the scorched pads thing ? if the ESC still shows up in BLheli configurator and spins the motor when you command it, its probably fine. scorching from a crash impact isnt always a death sentence, sometimes its just burnt flux residue or a tiny arc from the short when everything snapped. hook it up to the bench, connect to BLheli suite and see if that corner ESC shows up and what its telemetry looks like. if its throwing desync errors or not showing at all then yeah replace it.

for the motor, cracked bell is a no from me. even if the stator looks clean the balance is gonna be off and youll get vibrations that'll mess with your gyro filtering. not worth the headache, just put a new one on. Source One arms are pretty easy to swap once you get the hang of it, just watch your wire routing on that rear arm, its tight.

ive had the exact same thing happen on my Source One lol, concrete walls are undefeated. i just replaced the whole ESC stack to be safe honestly, i know thats probably overkill but i wasnt confident enough in my diagnostics to trust a maybe-damaged ESC at full throttle. probably cost me more than it needed to but peace of mind and all that
