so i was reading through the FAA update that came out last week and honestly i'm still trying to wrap my head around it. the remote ID stuff has been a thing for a while now but it sounds like they're actually going to start enforcing it more seriously starting early next year? like actually fining people and not just warnings.

i fly mostly at a local park and i've got the remote ID module on my mavic but i honestly never really verified it was broadcasting correctly. i just kind of assumed it worked. now im second guessing everything. anyone gone through the process of actually checking if your module is doing what its supposed to do? and is there some app or something that can confirm it

yeah the enforcement thing has been coming for a while honestly, they kept pushing it back so a lot of people got complacent including me. there's an app called drone scanner that can pick up remote ID broadcasts and it works pretty well for checking if your module is actually transmitting. just fire it up on your phone and take off nearby and see if your aircraft shows up. if it doesnt then yeah you've got a problem worth sorting out before someone official notices.

the fines are apparently real now, like not just a slap on the wrist situation. i went through all my gear a couple months ago and one of my older modules needed a firmware update before it would broadcast reliably so worth checking that too.

wait so does this affect recreational flyers too or just commercial? i thought if you registered with the recreational flyer database thing you were kind of in a different category. genuinely asking because i fly under that and i dont have a remote ID module on my smaller quad at all
