so ive been trying to fly at this spot near a small regional airport, not like LAX or anything, just a tiny little municipal field that barely gets any traffic. pulled up aloft and the grid shows 0ft authorization which i know means i need to go through LAANC or DroneZone but heres the thing ? i submitted through aloft and it got auto-denied instantly. no explanation, just denied.

checked the map again and the area i picked is showing as a green grid square, not the orange controlled airspace ones. im genuinely confused because i thought green meant i was good to go without any authorization? or am i misreading this entirely. been flying for about 8 months so still figuring out the airspace stuff

green on aloft doesnt always mean what you think it means, thats a really common mixup. the color can indicate the airspace class but it doesnt necessarily mean you have authorization. if the grid square shows 0ft UAS facility map ceiling, youre in controlled airspace and you need explicit authorization regardless of what color the tile looks like on screen. the auto-denial usually happens when theres a NOTAM or TFR layered on top of the class D or E surface airspace that the facility map doesnt visually communicate super clearly.

id check notams.faa.gov and also 1800wxbrief before you try submitting again. sometimes theres a TFR that looks invisible on the consumer apps but is sitting right on top of your requested area. happened to me near a small airport in ohio, took me like an hour to figure out there was a VIP TFR from like three days prior that was still technically active in the system.

yeah i had almost the same thing happen to me lol. ended up just calling the airport tower directly and the guy was actually super helpful, told me exactly what was going on with the airspace that day. not sure if thats the official way to handle it but it worked for me
