so i picked up the avata 2 back in the spring after flying the original avata for about a year and a half. figured i'd wait a bit before posting anything since first impressions on fpv stuff can be pretty misleading until you really get comfortable with the aircraft. anyway here are my actual thoughts after putting probably 60+ flights on it.

the image quality jump is real. i was skeptical because the original wasnt bad but the 4k on the avata 2 is just cleaner, better dynamic range especially in mixed lighting situations like flying through trees with sun coming through. the stabilization also holds up better when you're doing aggressive moves which was a weak point on the first one if you pushed it too hard.

the goggles 3 situation is a whole other conversation but the integration is tighter and the latency feels lower, though i haven't actually measured it just going on feel. the fit is better too which sounds minor but after a long session it actually matters.

where i think people might be disappointed is if you're coming from proper diy fpv. this is still very much a locked down dji ecosystem and the flight characteristics are tuned to be approachable, not to feel like a real freestyle quad. that's fine for what it is but some people buy this thinking they're getting a gateway into traditional fpv and i dont think thats quite right.

the price jump from the original is hard to justify if you already have a first gen thats in good shape. but if you're buying new id say go straight to the avata 2, the original feels pretty dated now at a similar used price point

good writeup. the point about diy fpv expectations is something i wish someone had told me before i got into the whole cinewhoop rabbit hole ? the avata stuff is its own thing and its not really a stepping stone to anything, more of a parallel path if that makes sense. if you want to get into proper fpv you just kind of have to go do that with a real quad and a sim.

curious how you find the battery life compares, i heard they improved it but my buddy said it didnt feel that different in practice
