so ive been flying for about two years now just as a hobby but im trying to go legit and start doing some real estate and maybe event work on the side. signed up to take the part 107 knowledge test at the end of next month and honestly the airspace stuff is stressing me out more than anything. like i get the basic LAANC and controlled vs uncontrolled concept but when they start asking about the sectional charts and reading all the little symbols and numbers i kind of lose track of what matters vs what they're actually going to test you on.

been using the Sporty's free course and some youtube stuff. anyone have a sense of how hard the actual test is compared to the practice tests? and is the weather section as brutal as people make it sound or is that overblown

the weather stuff really isnt that bad once you sit down with it for a couple hours. TAF and METAR reading looks intimidating but they only ask maybe 2-3 questions on it and they tend to be pretty straightforward once you know what the abbreviations mean. the sectional chart stuff is where people actually lose points in my experience. get yourself a physical sectional or at least a good zoomed in PDF and just drill the symbols until they're automatic. the test i took had like 4 or 5 questions that were basically just 'what does this symbol mean' and if you dont have those memorized you're just guessing.

also dont sleep on the cloud clearance and visibility requirements for different airspace classes. that stuff comes up more than you'd expect and people mix up class B vs C vs D constantly under pressure.

i passed mine about 8 months ago, scored a 92 which i was pretty happy with. honestly the Sporty's course is fine but i ended up doing a lot of the practice tests on 3DR pilot and also found some free ones through the FAA website itself. just kept doing practice tests over and over until i was consistently hitting 85+ and then i felt ready. the real test felt pretty similar in difficulty, maybe slightly easier in spots. you get 2 hours for 60 questions so time really isnt an issue at all, dont rush yourself
