flying in Iceland next month, any tips?

  • Members

so ive been planning this trip to Iceland for like 8 months and obviously im bringing the mini 4 pro. but im starting to stress a bit about the rules there. from what ive read you need to register with the icelandic transport authority and there are some zones around Reykjavik that are restricted but outside of that its pretty open? not 100% sure though

also just worried about the weather messing with everything. heard wind is brutal out there. anyone actually flown there and have real advice not just what the tourism sites say

flew there two summers ago with my mavic air 2. the registration thing is real, do it before you go, its not hard but takes a day or two to process. Ive heard of people just showing up and trying to figure it out on their phones at the airport which is a terrible idea

wind is no joke honestly. i had days where i just couldnt fly at all, especially on the south coast near those black sand beaches. morning is usually your best window before everything picks up. the light at like 4am in summer is insane though, totally worth setting an alarm

not been to Iceland but just wanted to say the Heli app is pretty good for checking restricted zones when youre traveling internationally, way better than trying to read the local CAA websites in another language lol. good luck with the trip
