yeah so this happened last weekend. was out at a state park, not even a national park, and a ranger came over right as i was landing and asked to see my registration. which i had on my phone no problem. but then she said drones werent allowed in the park at all, like a blanket ban, and honestly i had no idea. i checked the FAA map before i went and nothing showed up restricted

she let me off with a warning which was nice but i felt pretty dumb. turns out the park has its own rules on top of the FAA stuff and they post it on a sign at the entrance which i completely missed. so i guess just sharing this because i always assumed if airspace is clear youre good and thats apparently not how it works at all

this catches so many people out. FAA clearance and ground permission are completely seperate things. national parks have had a ban since like 2014 and a lot of state parks have followed with their own policies. always worth calling ahead or checking the specific park website, the airspace apps dont cover land use rules at all

ugh same thing happend to me at a reservoir last year. the water district owned the land and had their own no drone rule that wasnt anywhere obvious. i think the only real way to know is just call them directly which is annoying but whatever, better than getting gear confiscated
