so i picked up the Mini 4 Pro back in the spring mostly because i was tired of lugging around my Mavic 3 for casual stuff and my partner kept complaining about the bag taking up half the car. figured id give the lighter option a shot and just see how it goes.

honestly? way more impressed than i expected. the obstacle avoidance is surprisingly competent for something this small, way better than i had on my Mini 2 which basically had none. the omnidirectional sensing has saved me twice already from being an idiot near tree branches. image quality is genuinely good, like i was ready to be disappointed but the 4K footage holds up really well even when i push it in post.

the things that annoy me though ? battery life is fine but the moment you turn on any of the automated flight modes it just tanks. and the remote with the screen (the RC 2) runs warm, not hot but warm enough that on a summer day its a little uncomfortable to hold for an extended session. also the price jump for the fly more combo is pretty steep, like you almost have to buy it because three batteries is the minimum you want but oof.

anyway if anyones on the fence between this and holding out for something else or going older Mini 3 Pro, happy to share more. just figured id drop this since i spent ages looking for actual user thoughts before i bought and mostly found review videos that felt sponsored.

really appreciate this, ive been going back and forth on basically this exact decision for weeks. the Mini 3 Pro is so much cheaper now which is tempting but the lack of omnidirectional sensing on that one makes me nervous since im still pretty new and definitely gonna clip something eventually lol. did you find the 4K at 60fps usable or does it get soft? ive heard mixed things about that specific mode.

yeah the RC 2 warmth thing is real, had the same issue in summer. i actually switched back to the RC-N1 with my phone for a while just because of it, my phone doesnt seem to care as much. loses the built in screen which is annoying but for long sessions its just more comfortable. also worth noting if you fly in colder weather the warmth becomes a non issue pretty fast, so kind of depends where you are i guess.

on the fly more combo pricing ? totally agree. i resisted it and bought batteries separately thinking id save money and somehow ended up spending more. just get the combo.
