so ive been flying my avata 2 for about 8 months now and wind is still the thing that gets me every time. like i'll be mid-flight and the gusts start picking up and i'm never sure if i should push through and finish the shot or just bring it home. had a close call last weekend where it was probably 18-20mph sustained with gusts higher than that and the thing was working really hard to hold position. got my footage but honestly it was stressful the whole time and im not sure it was worth the risk.

my question is basically ? do you guys have like a personal rule for when you just dont fly? i know the specs say it can handle up to 27mph or whatever but specs and real world are different things. especially when you're flying near trees or anything that can create unpredictable turbulence. i feel like im still learning to read the conditions and i dont really have a good instinct for it yet.

honestly the spec limits are kind of meaningless in practice because they're measured in clean open air conditions. if you're anywhere near obstacles, trees, buildings ? cut that number in half in your head. turbulence off structures is way more dangerous than the raw windspeed. i fly a lot of coastal stuff where it's consistently gusty and my personal rule is if the gusts are more than 10mph over the sustained wind i pack up. that spike differential is what catches you off guard, not the steady wind you can compensate for.

also start paying attention to the motor output in your OSD or goggles if you have that data available. when you're seeing motors consistently pegged above 80% just holding a hover, thats your sign the aircraft is working too hard and you dont have much margin left for actual maneuvering.

same struggle lol. i tend to just check windy.com the morning of and if it's showing anything above like 15mph at altitude i usually find something else to do. life's too short to stress about footage that probably isn't even gonna be that good anyway when the whole drone is wobbling around. had one bad landing in wind where it caught me sideways and that was enough lesson for me
