this has been bugging me since saturday. running a 5 inch on a standard 5.8ghz analog setup, TBS Triumph antennas on the goggles, and every single time i was staged at the start line i was getting breakup and static on ch3. once the race actually started and i moved maybe 20 feet from the line it was totally fine, clear feed the whole lap. happened in three separate heats so its not a fluke.

my best guess is interference from everyone elses quads being armed and idling in close proximity but i genuinely dont know if thats a thing. the race director did a frequency check before each heat so we were all on different channels. thought maybe it was my vtx power setting ? i was on 200mw because the venue rules said to keep it low ? but other people on similar power had no issues as far as i could tell. video transmitter is a Rush Tank, fairly new, maybe 6 months old.

gonna dig into it this week but wanted to see if anyone has run into something similar before i start swapping parts that dont need swapping

yeah this is a real thing, when you have 6-8 quads all armed and sitting within a few meters of each other the RF environment gets pretty nasty even if everyone is technically on different channels. the adjacent channel bleedover from analog vtx's especially at close range can mess with reception even when the channel separation looks fine on paper. i've seen it way worse on the older raceband channels that are packed closer together.

the fact that it cleared up as soon as you moved is kind of the giveaway tbh. probably not your gear at all. one thing worth checking is whether your goggles were in auto-search mode or locked ? sometimes they'll try to hop if the signal dips and that causes a totally different kind of breakup that looks like interference but isnt. also what goggles are you on

Rush Tank on 200mw indoors with other quads that close, yeah id expect some weirdness. not saying its a bad vtx but the filtering on those isnt amazing and at low power settings the signal to noise ratio on the reciever end is already thin before you add a pile of other transmitters right next to you. might be worth borrowing someones diversity receiver setup to see if it makes a difference at the start, sometimes just having the two antennas gives enough margin to hold through that kind of situation
