keeps drifting when i let go of the sticks?? is this normal

probably a dumb question but when i hover and take my hands off the sticks it kind of slowly moves to one side, not a lot but enough that id crash into something if i waited long enough. i thought these things were supposed to just stay still. its a ryze tello if that matters. tried it indoors and outdoors and same thing both times. is this a calibration thing or is something wrong with it or is this just how drones work and im expecting too much

the tello uses optical flow sensors to hold position indoors and GPS is either very limited or nonexistent on that thing so yeah some drift is pretty expected especially outdoors. indoors it should be more stable if the floor has enough texture for the optical flow to grab onto, like if youre flying over carpet or a blank white floor it'll struggle. try calibrating the IMU if you havent, theres an option in the app somewhere. but honestly a little drift on a tello is kind of just part of the deal, its not a precision hovering machine its more of a learning toy

yeah same thing happened with mine when i first got it, drove me crazy. turned out i hadnt done the IMU calibration and also the compass was off. once i did both it got way better but still drifts a bit outside when theres any wind at all. the tello really isnt great outdoors tbh, even a light breeze messes with it. for learning the controls its fine but dont expect it to sit perfectly still like a mavic or something
