so anyway i finally sat down to edit the footage from a shoot i did like three weeks ago and realized i have no real system. footage is spread across two drives, some clips are color graded some arent, i have a half finished premiere project from when i started and then started over in resolve and now i cant even remember what i was doing. its a disaster.

the shoot itself went really well ? had some great hyperlapse stuff and a few really nice low passes over water ? but i just cant bring myself to deal with the editing mess. i think part of it is i dont have a consistent workflow so every project starts from scratch basically. does anyone have like a loose structure they follow? not asking for anything fancy just something that keeps things from spiraling like this

yeah this is me every single project lol. what finally helped was just forcing myself to do an ingestion step every time i come home from a shoot before i even look at the footage. card goes in, footage copies to a folder named with the date and location, done. doesnt take long and future you will be very grateful. i also keep a trash folder inside each project for stuff i know i wont use so im not deleting anything permanently but also not staring at 200 clips trying to decide what to cut.

as for resolve vs premiere, i switched fully to resolve about a year ago and the color tools are just so much better for drone footage especially if youre working with log profiles. but honestly use whatever you actually finish projects in, thats the most important thing

the hyperlapse stuff is always the worst to edit imo because the file sizes are huge and davinci just chokes on my machine when i have more than a couple on the timeline. what specs are you working with? i had to start proxying everything and it made a massive differnece. probably not the organizational help you were asking for but thought id mention it
