DJI RC controller randomly disconnecting mid flight, this is getting scary

  • Members

not sure whats going on but my controller has started dropping connection for like 1-2 seconds at a time during flights. it reconnects on its own but those moments of just... waiting to see if the drone comes back are genuinely terrifying. happened three times in the last two outings. im on the RC not the RC-N1 if that matters.

flying a mavic 3 classic. i havent changed anything in my setup, same locations ive flown before without issues. i did update the firmware a few weeks ago which is roughly when this started but i cant say for sure if thats the cause. anyone dealt with this or have any idea where to even start troubleshooting it cause DJI support takes forever

that firmware timing is suspicious, ive seen a few posts on reddit about the RC having some connection weirdness after certain updates. first thing id try is a full cache clear on the controller and make sure youre on the latest version cause sometimes they push a fix pretty quick after a bad release. also worth checking if there's any interference in those spots, like new cell towers or wifi heavy areas, but if its locations youve flown before without problems then yeah probably not that.

if it keeps happening after the cache clear i would honestly do a full controller reset and re-pair. pain in the butt but it fixes weird persistent issues more often than it should

mine did something similar once and it turned out the USB-C port on the RC was just slightly loose from being in my bag, was causing intermittent power fluctuations i think. probably not your issue but worth checking the physical stuff before you go deep into firmware rabbit holes
