ok so my brother keeps telling me to just buy the mini 4 pro as my first drone because "if youre gonna do it do it right" but that thing is like 760 bucks and i havent even flown a drone before. feels like a lot to drop on something i might hate or be terrible at. but then again i dont want to buy something bad and then have to buy again in 6 months.

is the jump in quality between like a entry level drone and the mini 4 pro actually noticeable for someone who doesnt know what theyre doing yet, or would i not even be able to tell the difference at this point. genuinely asking because i cant tell from videos online if im just watching good editing or if the drone is actually that much better

your brother isnt wrong exactly but also isnt totally right either. the mini 4 pro is a fantastic drone but a lot of what makes it worth the money ? the obstacle avoidance, the activetrack, the better low light performance ? you wont really be using any of that stuff when you first start. you'll be focused on just not flying it into a tree.

id say get a Mini 2 SE or even a refurbished Mini 2 first, fly it for a few months, and if youre still into it and want more then sell it and upgrade. you lose maybe 50 bucks in the process and you'll actually understand what youre paying for when you eventually do get something nicer. jumping straight to the 4 pro isnt a mistake but it does mean any crashes are way more expensive mistakes

got the mini 4 pro as my first and dont regret it but i will say i didnt apreciate half the features for the first like two months. the obstacle avoidance saved me embarasment a couple times though so theres that. depends how clumsy you think youll be i guess
