so ive been flying my avata 2 for about 8 months now and wind is still the thing that gets me every time. like i know the specs say it can handle up to whatever windspeed but that doesn't really tell you much practically speaking. yesterday i was out at a field and it was probably gusting to 25mph and i kept trying to fight it and just ended up burning through my battery in like 6 minutes doing basically nothing useful.

my question is more about technique i guess ? do you guys just abort when it gets gusty or is there a way to actually fly in that stuff and get something out of it. i feel like every time i try to work with the wind instead of against it i end up in a weird position relative to my subject and then have to burn energy fighting back. is this just a skill thing or is the avata not the right tool for windy conditions

yeah 25mph gusts on something like the avata is rough, thats a pretty draggy airframe compared to like a mini 4 pro or whatever. i basically have a personal rule where sustained wind over 20mph i just pack up unless im specifically trying to practice recovery flying. the thing is gusty and sustained are totally different problems ? steady 20mph you can actually lean into and plan your movements around, but unpredictable gusts just mess with your spatial awareness and the craft is constantly fighting to hold position so your inputs feel delayed or weird.

the working with wind thing is a real skill though. if you know wind direction is stable, plan your shots so you're flying into the wind on the money shot and letting the wind push you home. battery management becomes way more predictable that way. but gusty days man, i just dont bother anymore unless im doing something where i actually want that chaotic look.

honestly same struggle. i read somewhere that you should practice hovering in wind before trying to actually fly anywhere and that helped me a little bit ? just holding position and getting used to how the stick inputs feel different when the craft is being pushed around. still not great at it but at least i dont panic as much when it starts buffeting.
