I'm completely new to drones and looking for my first purchase. Budget is around $300 and I want something that won't immediately crash when I sneeze wrong. I've been looking at the DJI Mini series but they seem pricey. Are there good alternatives that are actually beginner-friendly?

Main priorities:

• Easy to fly and forgiving
• Good GPS and return-to-home features
• Decent camera for learning aerial photography

Should I start with something cheaper to learn on, or invest in something I won't outgrow quickly?

Honestly, the DJI Mini 4K is the clear winner for beginners - their entry-level models offer unparalleled stability and software polish. Yes it's at the top of your budget, but if you want a drone that "just works" out of the box with minimal calibration, DJI is the clear winner.

I'd actually recommend starting with something cheaper first. We often suggest to beginners that they start off with a cheap drone to practice on as they develop their flight skills - for new drone pilots, crashing is bound to happen at some point. Maybe grab a $50-100 practice drone first?

Consider the Potensic Atom 3-Axis model - I'm sure you would enjoy it, and you won't grow out of it too quickly. It's a good middle ground between cheap toy drones and the premium DJI stuff. Plus number one piece of flying advice is to stay away from trees and other shrubbery!
