ok so this is kind of a good problem to have but also stressful. landed a contract with a local solar installation company to do roof inspections and documentation on finished installs. paying pretty well, like better than I expected honestly. but now im sitting here wondering if everything I have in place is actually sufficient or if im missing something that could bite me later.

I have my 107, I have a mini 3 pro which i know some people will say isnt the right tool but it works fine for what they need. my main worry is the insurance. I got a basic liability policy through Thimble when I first started doing paid stuff but im not sure if that level of coverage is right for a commercial contract like this. the company asked if i was insured and I said yes but now im reading about things like additional insured endorsements and I have no clue if my current policy even allows that or if I need to call them and upgrade something.

also they want me to sign their contractor agreement which has some language in it I dont totally understand. should I just sign it or actually get someone to look at it? feels like overkill for a job this size but also dont want to agree to something dumb

the additional insured thing is really common with commercial clients, basically they want to be named on your policy so if something happens on their property they have some protection too. Thimble does support this i believe, you just have to request it when you set up the certificate of insurance. call them or do it through the app, they can usually generate a COI with the clients name on it pretty quickly. its worth checking before you just assume your existing policy covers it because sometimes theres an extra step.

on the contract ? honestly for anything ongoing I would at least have a lawyer friend skim it, or use one of those online legal review services. doesnt cost that much and the stuff that looks like standard boilerplate sometimes has indemnification clauses that put way more responsibility on you than makes sense. seen people get burned by that.

mini 3 pro for roof inspections is totally fine, dont let anyone make you feel bad about that. the camera is more than good enough for documentation work and the obstacle avoidance helps when youre working close to structures. ive done similar work with mine and the clients never cared what drone I was using as long as the deliverables were there

the contract thing though yeah dont just sign it without reading carefully. I signed one early on that basically said I was responsible for any rework if the footage wasnt usable due to weather conditions even if I had already done the shoot. never again
