nazgul5 v3 keeps oscillating on fast rolls, tried everything

  • Members

okay so this has been driving me insane for like two weeks now. picked up a nazgul5 v3 prebuilt, flashed fresh betaflight 4.4, loaded the suggested rates and pid profile from iflights site and it flies pretty okay mostly but on fast aggressive rolls especially at higher throttle it starts this weird oscillation that doesnt fully stop until i back off. its not prop wash exactly, feels more like the quad is fighting itself mid maneuver.

ive already lowered d gains a bit, tried bumping D_min, played with the filtering and honestly i might be making it worse at this point. motors get warm but not stupid hot. props are balanced, checked twice. running 45amp escs that came stock with it on 6s. im not new to tuning but prebuilts always feel like you're fighting against someone elses choices baked into the hardware and i never quite know where to start fresh vs work with what they gave you

that sounds like it could be P gains too high rather than a D problem tbh. fast rolls at higher throttle with that kind of oscillation, id look at P first before touching D more. try dropping roll P b

yeah prebuilts man, the tunes they ship with are kind of generic by necessity, works okay for average conditions but anything aggressive and you start feeling the compromises. i had something similar

that sounds like it could be P gains too high rather than a D problem tbh. fast rolls at higher throttle with that kind of oscillation, id look at P first before touching D more. try dropping roll P by like 5-8 points and see if it smooths out, you can always creep back up. also what does your blackbox look like on a problem run, thats really the only way to actually diagnose this stuff properly instead of guessing. without a log youre just stabbing in the dark

yeah prebuilts man, the tunes they ship with are kind of generic by necessity, works okay for average conditions but anything aggressive and you start feeling the compromises. i had something similar on my evoque, turned out my rpm filtering notches were in weird places because the stock motor data was slightly off for my specific batch. worth checking if the motor rpm values in the filtering tab actually match your motor kv and pole count. probably not the issue but its one of those things that can cause weird resonance that only shows up under load. also make sure your props are fully seated, i know you said you checked but ive been burned by that one before when i was sure i'd already ruled it out
