part 107 exam experience - was it harder than expected or am i just dumb

  • Members

okay so i sat for the part 107 yesterday and i genuinely dont know how i feel about it. some of the questions were exactly what i practiced but then there were a few that felt like they came out of nowhere. like there was one about crew resource management that i honestly just guessed on, i dont even remember seeing that in any of the prep material i used. also the sectional chart they gave me in the test was a different one than what i'd been practicing with which i knew was going to happen but still threw me off a bit.

wont get my score for a few days i guess, the testing center said the official result comes from the FAA. just kind of venting i suppose but also wondering if anyone else felt like there were random questions that didnt seem connected to anything in the study material. maybe im just blanking on where i saw them

the different sectional thing is real, they rotate them and it doesnt matter what specific one you studied as long as you know how to read the symbols and interpret airspace. that was the advice i got

yeah the crew resource management stuff shows up sometimes and its one of those topics that feels weirdly out of place for a drone test. its technically in the aeronautical knowledge handbook but its kind of buried. i think the idea is that commercial operators might work with other people in the field so they want to know you understand communication and decision making under pressure. doesn't make it any less annoying when it catches you off guard on the actual test though

you'll be fine probably, most people feel worse coming out of it than their score actually reflects. the passing score is 70 so theres some room to have gotten a few weird ones wrong

the different sectional thing is real, they rotate them and it doesnt matter what specific one you studied as long as you know how to read the symbols and interpret airspace. that was the advice i got and it turned out to be true. honestly the test is less about memorizing specific charts and more about knowing the logic behind reading any of them. hope your score comes back good, post it when you find out
