Mini 3 Pro vs Mini 4 Pro ? is it actually worth the upgrade

  • Members

so ive had my Mini 3 Pro for about a year and a half now and honestly it's been great, no complaints really. But my buddy keeps telling me to grab the Mini 4 Pro because of the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance and i'm kinda tempted. The thing is i mostly just fly around parks and do some light travel footage, nothing crazy, no real estate or commercial stuff.

I'm not sure if the obstacle avoidance upgrade is actually that noticeable in day to day flying or if its one of those things that sounds amazing on paper but you barely use it. The 4 Pro is also like $200+ more depending where you get it. Anyone made that jump and actually felt the difference or did you kind of regret spending the extra cash

Honestly the obstacle avoidance on the 4 Pro is genuinely better, like it's not just marketing. The side sensors on the Mini 3 always felt a bit hit or miss to me in tighter spaces but i only noticed how much better the 4 Pro is when I nearly clipped a tree line shooting some low pass stuff. That said if you're flying open parks and not doing anything fast or aggressive you probably won't notice it much day to day.

For travel footage the image quality difference is also pretty minimal unless you're doing a ton of low light work. I'd say wait for a sale honestly. B&H and Adorama both do decent drops around holidays and you could probably close that price gap a bit.

i went from the 3 pro to the 4 pro a few months ago and i kind of wish i'd waited tbh. The footage looks amazing but i'm not sure how much of that is just me being excited about new gear. If your 3 pro is working fine and you like your shots just keep flying it, maybe put that money toward ND filters or a better bag or something
