new regs coming for commercial operators in - worth paying attention to

ive been doing part 107 work for about three years now and i just got back from a local UAS industry meetup where someone from the regional FSDO came and talked for about an hour. some of what they said i already knew but there were a few things that caught me off guard, specifically around BVLOS operations and how the waiver process is apparently getting reworked. they kept saying it would be more streamlined but honestly the way it was described didnt sound any simpler to me, just different paperwork basically

also came up was some movement on drone delivery corridor designations in urban areas which is pretty interesting if youre thinking about that side of the industry. the timeline they gave was vague, somewhere in but no hard dates. just wanted to share in case others havent heard anything about this - the info doesnt always trickle down fast and i feel like a lot of hobbyists dont realize how much this stuff eventually affects where and how everyone flies, not just commercial guys

thanks for sharing this, genuinely useful. i've been following the BVLOS waiver situation for a while and yeah the current process is kind of brutal - i know a company that waited almost 14 months for an approval and by the time it came through their operational needs had changed. if the new process actually cuts that down meaningfully it could open up a lot for smaller commercial operators who cant afford to just sit and wait

the delivery corridor stuff is interesting but im a bit skeptical it moves as fast as they implied. thats been "coming soon" for a while now at every industry event i've been to. not saying it wont happen just... ill believe it when i see actual designated corridors on a map

wait so does any of this affect recreational flyers at all or is it mostly just part 107 stuff? i just got my first drone a few months ago and im still trying to figure out what rules actually apply to me vs what im reading thats for commercial people. honestly the FAA website is kind of confusing to navigate if you dont already know what youre looking for
