finally picked up an EVO II Pro ? some thoughts after a few weeks

so ive been flying a Mavic Air 2 for about a year and a half and honestly it was fine but i kept eyeing the EVO II Pro because of that 6K sensor and the fact that you dont have to mess with geofencing the same way you do with DJI stuff. finally pulled the trigger on a refurb unit last month and figured id share some thoughts since i was really hunting for real user opinions before i bought and couldnt find much that wasnt like... clearly written by someone who got it for free.

first thing ? the build feels genuinely solid, like heavier than i expected but in a good way. the camera is really impressive for the price point i got it at, dynamic range is noticeably better than what i was getting from the Air 2. colors straight out of the camera are kind of warm and a tiny bit oversaturated but thats easy enough to dial in.

the Autel Sky app is where things get a little rough honestly. it works but its clunky compared to DJI Fly, some menus dont make a ton of sense and ive had it freeze on me twice during pre-flight. nothing catastrophic but it gave me a little scare. also the obstacle avoidance sensors are decent but i wouldnt trust them the way some people seem to. had a close call near some thin branches that it totally ignored.

overall pretty happy with the purchase, just wanted to share since i was in the same boat of trying to find honest takes. happy to answer questions if anyone has them

yeah the app situation is the main thing that keeps people on the fence about Autel and honestly i get it. i had an EVO 1 back in the day and switched to DJI because the software was just smoother, but a buddy of mine has the EVO II Pro and swears the app has gotten a lot better with recent updates. still not DJI level polish but apparently less crashy than it used to be.

the geofencing thing is real though, that genuinely matters for some of us. i fly near some areas that DJI just locks you out of and having a bird that doesnt treat you like a criminal by default is kind of nice. might actually look at picking one up if i can find a good deal on a refurb like you did. what did you end up paying if you dont mind me asking?

the obstacle avoidance thing you mentioned about thin branches ? same experience here, pretty much every drone ive flown struggles with anything that isnt a big solid wall. i think people expect too much from those sensors. glad you're liking it overall tho, the image quality on that sensor really is hard to argue with at that price
