okay so this is a little embarassing to post but i failed the knowledge test twice and im honestly not sure if im studying the wrong stuff or if the questions are just worded in a really weird way. both times i felt decent going in and then came out feeling like half the questions were about stuff i barely touched on. first time i scored a 69 which is one point below passing and the second time was a 71 which like come on.

the thing is i know how to fly, ive been doing this for four years, i have a nice setup and i understand the airspace stuff at least i think i do. but something about the way they ask questions on the actual test vs how the study material explains things is just off to me. anyone else ran into this or am i just missing something obvious

yeah the question wording is genuinely weird sometimes, theres a few on there that seem like they have two correct answers and you just have to figure out which one the FAA thinks is more correct which is kind of maddening. that said 69 and 71 both times tells me there might be a gap somewhere in the material rather than just bad luck. what are you using to study? some of the cheaper or older prep courses havent been updated and some of the regs have changed a bit over the years.

i'd really focus on the aeronautical decision making section if you havent, that one catches people off guard because its not technical knowledge its more about like reading a scenario and picking the most conservative safe option, which sounds easy but the way theyre worded its easy to overthink

honestly been there man, failed the private pilot written twice back before i switched to drones full time and it was the same feeling. the test is testing whether you can read FAA-style language as much as it is testing actual knowledge if that makes sense. once i started reading the actual FAR/AIM stuff instead of just summaries of it, i started getting why they word things the way they do. annoying but it works
