so ive been planning this 5inch freestyle build for like 3 months now, finally started ordering parts last week. going with the iFlight Chimera7 frame because i got it on sale and everyone seems to like it for bando stuff, paired with a F7 stack i found on sale. the ESCs are 45A BLHeli_32 which i thought would be more than enough for 2306 motors but a friend told me i should have gone 60A minimum for the motors i picked. the motors are the Brotherhobby Returner R5 2306 2450kv running on 6S.

i havent soldered the stack in yet, just dry fitting everything. is my friend right that ill burn the ESCs up or is he being overly cautious? i dont want to have to reorder before i even get started. also any tips for the first solder joints on a 4in1 would be appreciated, ive done maybe 4 or 5 builds total so im not completely useless but i always stress about the battery lead

45A is fine for 2306s on 6S, your friend is probably thinking of bigger motors or someone who pins the throttle constantly on whoops or something. the Returner R5s arent known for being power hungry. i ran 40A ESCs with similar motors for almost a year before i upgraded and never had a thermal issue. just make sure your 4in1 has decent airflow and youre not doing sustained full throttle for minutes at a time (which in freestyle youre not anyway).

for the battery lead, tin both the pad and the wire separately before you join them, and use a thick enough iron tip that you can dump heat fast and get off the joint quick. lingering is what kills pads. also if the 4in1 has capacitor pads already populated youre good, if not slap a 1000uf low ESR cap on the battery leads before you close it up.

the chimera7 is a solid frame choice for bando, good luck not binning it in the first session lol. genuinely though the arm thickness on that thing is nice. on the ESC question i honestly dont know enough about those specific motors to say for sure but 45A on 6S always makes me a little nervous, not saying your friend is right just that id keep an eye on temps after the first few packs
