Air 3 vs Air 3S ? is the upgrade actually worth it for casual weekend flying

  • Members

so ive had the Air 3 since basically launch and genuinely love it, no complaints really. but ive been seeing a lot of stuff about the Air 3S and the sensor upgrade and im starting to wonder if im missing out. my main use is weekend hikes, occasional family trip stuff, nothing professional at all. i dont sell footage or anything like that.

the low light thing is what keeps catching my eye because i do sometimes fly at dusk and my Air 3 footage gets pretty grainy past a certain point. but then again the price jump is real and i already have all my ND filters and the shoulder bag fits perfectly and you know how it is once youve got a whole system dialed in.

anyone actually made this switch or used both? would love to hear from people who arent trying to sell me something

honestly for casual weekend use i'd probably stick with the Air 3 unless you're really bothered by the low light thing. the 3S is genuinely better in that department, not just marketing, i borrowed a friends for a weekend trip and the difference at dusk was noticeable. but if youre not printing large or putting stuff on anything bigger than a youtube video it's hard to justify the cost imo. your ND filters wont carry over either which is another headache people dont mention.

I just got the Air 3S a few weeks ago as my first drone actually so I can't do a direct comparison but I can say the low light really is impressive, shot some footage near golden hour last weekend and barely had to touch it in post. Not sure if that helps your specific question since I dont have the Air 3 to compare side by side but maybe someone else can chime in on that part.
