cant get my rolls to stop wobbling mid trick

  • Members

so ive been messing with rolls and split s variations for a few weeks now and something is just off. like the roll initiates fine but halfway through theres this wobble or twitch that throws the whole thing. doesnt feel like a prop wash thing since im not diving into my own wash, more like the quad just hiccups during the rotation.

running a 5inch on f7 stack, betaflight 4.4, filters are pretty stock except i turned the rpm filter on because i was getting some motor noise. rates are fairly aggressive, maybe thats part of it idk. someone mentioned d term might be too low but i dont really understand how that fixes a roll wobble specifically

anyone dealt with this or know what to actually look at first

yeah D term was my first thought too. when its too low the quad overshoots corrections and you get that snap-wobble thing, especially on fast rolls. try bumping D up like 5-8 points at a time and see if it smooths out. also check your TPA curve, if its cutting in too early it can do weird stuff at mid throttle punch during a roll. blackbox a few runs if you can, makes it way easier to see whats actually happening vs guessing

had the exact same issue last month. for me it turned out my motors were slightly unbalanced from a crash and i kept tuning thinking it was software lol. worth checking props are on tight and balanced before you go too deep into the pid rabbit hole
