ok so i got the Mini 4 Pro a couple months ago and im pretty new to all of this but something seems off with my range. i see people talking about flying a mile out no problem and i start getting signal warnings way before that, sometimes even just a few hundred meters depending on where im flying.

im using the RC-N2 controller that came in the box, not the RC 2. not sure if thats the issue. i fly mostly in a pretty open suburban area, not like downtown with a bunch of buildings everywhere. there are some trees but nothing crazy.

i updated the firmware last week thinking that might help but honestly cant tell if it made any difference. battery is always charged before i go out. someone at my local flying spot mentioned something about the antenna orientation on the controller mattering but i wasnt sure if they were talking about a different drone or what. any ideas would be appreciated, im not trying to fly far just feels weird when it gets glitchy close in

antenna orientation is real and it matters more than people think. the flat face of the antennas on the RC-N2 should be pointing toward the drone, not the edge. a lot of beginers hold the controller with the antennas pointing straight up which actually puts the weakest part of the signal right at the drone. try rotating them so theyre angled out to the sides a bit and tilted toward wherever the drone is, you should notice a difference pretty quickly

also the RC-N2 does have shorter range than the RC 2 just generally, its kind of the tradeoff for the cheaper bundle price. but you should still be getting way more than a few hundred meters in open suburban areas so the antenna thing is probably worth trying first

could also be interference from wifi and stuff in your neighborhood honestly. 2.4ghz band gets crowded in residential areas, the drone should auto switch to 5.8 but sometimes it doesnt do it as fast as youd want. theres a setting in the DJI fly app under remote controller where you can see which frequency its on, worth checking what its doing when you start getting dropouts. im not an expert on this stuff but that tripped me up early on
