so this has been driving me insane for like two weeks now. i have a zenmuse x7 mounted on my inspire 2 and after i updated the firmware back in ? i think it was late october ? the gimbal started doing this weird slow drift on the roll axis. not a huge amount, maybe a degree or two, but enough that when im doing slow lateral moves on a commercial job it looks like the horizon is slowly tilting and the client obviously notices.

ive recalibrated like five times, tried different calibration surfaces, made sure the drone was level, all that. the yaw and pitch are totally fine its literally just roll. and the weird thing is it only seems to happen when the drone is actually moving, if i just hover in place it looks rock solid. starts to creep when i do any kind of translational movement.

ive seen some people mention imu drift but i thought the x7 gimbal handled its own stabilization independently from the main imu? or does it reference both? genuinely not sure. has anyone rolled back firmware on an inspire 2 and actually had it fix something like this, or is that a rabbit hole i shouldnt go down

yeah the x7 does reference the aircraft imu for certain corrections, its not fully independent like some people think. the gimbal has its own imu but they work together especially during translational movement which would explain exactly what youre seeing. i had something similar on mine about a year ago, wasnt after a firmware update though, turned out one of the ribbon cables in the gimbal mount had like the tiniest amount of play and was causing intermittent signal weirdness. obviously harder to diagnose but worth checking the physical connection before going too deep into firmware stuff.

that said i wouldnt completely rule out the firmware angle. DJI has definitely pushed updates that introduced gimbal behavior changes and called them bug fixes. rolling back is kind of a pain and theres no guarantee but if everything else checks out it might be worth trying. there are guides on the inspire pilots forum that walk you through it without bricking anything.

have you tried recalibrating the IMU on the aircraft itself not just the gimbal? i know it sounds basic but i had drift issues on my mavic 3 cine that turned out to be the aircraft imu being slightly off and it was affecting how the gimbal was compensating. probably a different situation with the inspire but might be worth doing both calibrations in sequence on a completely flat surface and seeing if that changes anything.
