so we've been doing manual spraying on about 340 acres of wine grapes for way too long and i finally convinced the farm owner to look at precision spraying with drones. we've been demoing the Agras T40 and honestly the specs look great on paper but i want to hear from people who have actually put one through a full growing season, not just a sales pitch from a dealer.

main concerns for us are the terrain following on hillside rows ? our vineyard is not flat at all, some of those blocks are pretty steep and the rows arent perfectly uniform. also wondering how the radar altimetry holds up when the canopy gets really dense mid-season. we had a dealer tell us it handles it fine but dealers gonna say what dealers gonna say.

also curious what your battery/charging setup looks like in the field. we're pretty far from reliable power on some blocks so we're thinking a generator situation but i dont know if anyone has a smarter solution.

ran the T30 for two full seasons on almonds and then switched to the T40 last year so i can give you some real numbers here. the terrain following is genuinely solid on moderate slopes but once you get past like 15-20 degrees consistently it does get a little twitchy ? it works but you'll want to do some calibration passes before you just let it rip on your steepest blocks. the phased array radar does a decent job with dense canopy but honestly in really thick vine growth i found bumping the flight height up a meter or two from the default and adjusting your spray rate accordingly gave better coverage than trusting it to fly super low automatically.

for power we run a diesel generator on a flatbed and it works fine, the smart charging hub can pull from it no problem. we charge 4 batteries while two are flying and it keeps up. a good quality pure sine wave inverter setup might work too if you dont want to deal with a full generator but i haven't tried it personally.

not on the Agras specifically but we trialed an XAG P100 on our citrus operation last spring and the terrain stuff was actually what impressed me most ? though citrus rows are pretty flat compared to what you're describing so maybe not a fair comparison. one thing i'll say is whatever platform you go with, spend serious time on the mission planning software before you fly because the default settings are almost never dialed for your specific crop and canopy density. we wasted probably a week of application time early on because we were just using presets.
