ok so ive been doing NDVI flights for a buddy's soybean operation this year with a Mavic 3 Multispectral and the data is fine but my whole processing workflow is just kind of duct-taped together and its taking way too long to get anything actionable to him. right now im flying, dumping into Pix4Dfields, doing the stitching there, then trying to interpret the output and honestly by the time i have something useful a week has gone by and hes already made decisions without the data anyway so whats even the point.

is there a faster end-to-end solution people are actually using? i've heard DroneDeploy is pretty quick with the cloud processing but i dont know if the agronomic analysis tools are actually good or just good-looking dashboards. also does anyone bother with ground truth sampling to validate their NDVI readings or is everyone just kind of eyeballing it and hoping for the best

the turnaround time problem is real and honestly pix4dfields is part of it ? its fine software but its not really built for speed. i switched to DroneDeploy about a year ago and the cloud processing is genuinely faster, like i can have a processed map back while im still driving home from the field sometimes. the agronomic tools are decent enough for identifying stress zones and generating variable rate prescription maps but you're right that the dashboards can look fancier than they are. for actual field scouting decisions i still walk zones myself after the maps flag something, the NDVI tells you WHERE to look not really WHAT the problem is.

as for ground truth ? yes, absolutely do calibration panels every flight, its not optional if you want your data to be comparable across dates. the reflectance calibration panel that comes with the M3M is fine but make sure you're doing it in consistent light conditions.

yeah the timing issue is kind of the whole problem with remote sensing for in-season decisions tbh. a weeks delay on nitrogen stress identification in soybeans is basically useless, the crop doesnt wait. some guys i know are doing same-day turnaround by keeping laptop in the truck and processing in the field but that requires a pretty beefy machine and even then pix4d isnt exactly fast. might be worth asking your buddy if hes actually willing to act on the data within 24-48 hours because if the management structure on his end isnt set up for it the bottleneck isnt your workflow its the whole operation.
