finally picked up an EVO Nano+ after going back and forth for months ? some thoughts

okay so i've been flying a Mini 2 for about a year and a half and honestly loved it but i got kind of curious about the Nano+ after seeing some footage comparisons online. finally caved last month and grabbed one on sale and i have some thoughts after putting maybe 8-10 hours on it now.

first off the image quality is genuinely impressive for something this small. the 1/1.28 sensor does make a noticeable difference in lower light situations compared to what i was used to. flew it around dusk a couple times and the noise handling was way better than i expected at that price point.

the controller is a bit of a mixed bag for me though. it feels cheaper than the DJI RC-N1 i was used to and the sticks feel a little mushy but i got used to it after a few sessions. also the Autel Sky app has come a long way from what it was apparently but there are still some quirks, like sometimes it takes weirdly long to establish connection on cold mornings.

obstacle avoidance is basically front facing only which i already knew going in so no surprises there. range has been totally fine for everything i do, never really pushed it past maybe 800 meters anyway.

overall pretty happy with it. anyone else running one of these have tips for getting the most out of the manual camera settings? i feel like im leaving something on the table with the color profiles.

the color profile thing ? yeah i went through the same thing when i first got mine. honestly the flat/log-ish profile (i think they call it Autel Cine on some firmware versions) is worth shooting in if you do any editing at all. takes a bit more work in post but you get way more latitude in the highlights especially at golden hour. i was just leaving it on auto for the first few weeks and kicking myself when i saw what people were pulling out of the raw files.

also one thing i noticed with mine is that the gimbal calibration can drift a little after a firmware update, so if your horizon looks slightly off just run the calibration from the app and it usually sorts itself out. took me a embarassingly long time to figure out that was the issue and not just wind.

i have the Nano+ too and the cold morning connection thing drives me nuts, glad im not alone on that. someone on another forum suggested turning on the controller first and waiting like 30 seconds before opening the app and it seems to help? not sure why that works but it does most of the time for me.
