okay so ive been reading a bunch of stuff about this and i still cant get a straight answer. im mostly asking because i fly near a college campus sometimes and the 2.4 and 5.8ghz spectrum there is absolutely saturated. like my wifi analyzer shows probably 30+ networks in range when im on the field near the buildings.

i currently have an old phantom 4 pro with lightbridge and ive never had a real problem with it even in that environment, but ive been thinking about upgrading and the marketing copy for O3 makes it sound like its some massive leap forward for signal reliability. but is it actually better in a high interference environment or is that just the usual DJI hype. ive seen people complain about O3 dropouts too so now im second guessing everything.

not looking for the spec sheet answer, more like real world experience from people who've actually flown both in crowded RF environments. the phantom has been so solid im honestly nervous to move away from it just for the sake of newer hardware.

honestly in my experience the difference between lightbridge and O3 in a genuinely congested environment is less dramatic than DJI wants you to believe. both use frequency hopping and both will struggle if the spectrum is truly saturated. that said O3 does seem to recover faster when it does drop, like the reconnect time is quicker, which matters more practically than whether it drops in the first place.

your phantom 4 pro is a tank though. lightbridge on that platform was really mature by the time the p4p came out and DJI had tuned it well. if youre not having problems i wouldnt upgrade just for signal performance, there are better reasons to move to newer hardware if you need them.

i switched from an air 2 (occusync 3) to a mavic 3 with O3 and fly near a pretty dense suburban area with tons of wifi. the O3 does feel more stable to me but im aware thats not exactly a controlled test. one thing i noticed is O3 seems smarter about switching between 2.4 and 5.8 on the fly, the older systems felt like they committed to one band more stubbornly. but yeah placebo effect is real with this stuff, hard to know for sure without actual spectrum analysis before and after
