okay so background: ive been doing mostly commercial aerial work for about four years, usually run a Inspire 2 with X7 and the DJI primes which are fine for what they are but ive been getting more requests for stuff that needs to match ground cam footage shot on Cooke S4s or Zeiss Supremes and the color science and rendering just isnt there with the DJI glass, at least not in a way thats easy to match in post without a ton of work.

been looking at going to something like a Freefly Alta X or maybe the Skyview with a proper Ronin 2 or Movi Carbon underneath and actually mounting a BMPCC 6K or even a small cinema package. the weight budget on the Alta X is obviously way more generous and i know people are flying RED Komodos on these rigs. my concern is mainly stabilization ? like how much does adding actual interchangeable PL or LPL glass affect the gimbal behavior, particularly if youre swapping between a lightweight prime and something like a 25-75mm zoom that weighs considerably more. does the Movi Carbon handle that rebalancing gracefully or is it a whole thing every time

also curious if anyone has opinions on the Gremsy Pixy U versus the Movi for this kind of work. ive seen the Gremsy stuff mentioned but dont know anyone personally who runs it for serious cinema work

ran a Komodo on a Movi Carbon under an Alta X for most of last year doing a documentary series. the rebalancing between lenses is genuinely a whole thing ? you really cant just swap a 35mm for a 50mm and hope for the best, you need to physically move the camera position on the dovetail and redo the motor tuning at least partially. we ended up just picking two lenses per shoot day and pre-balancing before takeoff and not touching it. the stabilization itself is excellent once its dialed, but it rewards discipline and preparation, not flexibility.

havent used the Gremsy for cinema work so cant compare directly but from what ive seen at trade shows the Movi ecosystem is more mature for heavy payloads. the Gremsy seems to be more popular in the broadcast and ENG world where the payloads are a bit more standardized.

this is kind of outside my usual setup but im curious ? have you looked at the DJI Ronin 2 at all for this? i know it gets overshadowed by the Movi but a buddy of mine swears by it for his Alta work and says the app-based tuning is way less painful than fighting Movi's software. might be worth at least comparing if youre going to be swapping payloads a lot. also the Cooke matching thing is a real headache, good luck with that honestly
