so ive been flying my mini 3 for a few months now and i mostly just go to parks and open fields no problem. but theres a college football stadium about maybe a mile from one of my usual spots and i honestly dont know if that changes anything or if its far enough away that it doesnt matter. i tried looking it up on the b4ufly app and it showed some kind of orange zone thing but i dont really know what that means in practice. like does orange mean i cant fly at all or do i just need to do something first. nobody at my local club has been super clear on this and i dont want to just wing it and end up with a fine or something

orange in b4ufly or in the DJI fly app usually means its a controlled or restricted area but not necessarily a hard no-fly. depends on the specifics. stadiums specifically are weird because the FAA has rules around them during events ? like within 3 nautical miles and under 3000 feet AGL during game time and i think for a window before and after too. so if theres no game happening you might be totally fine, but if there's an event going on that day you'd be breaking the rules even a mile out if you're inside that radius. check LAANC first ? if the area has LAANC coverage you can request authorization through apps like aloft or airspace link and get auto-approved sometimes within seconds. if not you'd need a manual waiver through dronezone which takes weeks so plan accordingly

yeah the stadium thing got me too when i first started. i just assumed a mile was enough buffer but it really isnt for certain events. i ended up downloading Aloft and it made way more sense than b4ufly tbh, you can actually request authorization right in the app. still took me a while to figure out what i was even requesting authorization for lol but it worked out
