ok so ive been flying my mini 3 for about 4 months now and i registered it with the FAA like right away because i read you had to do that for anything over 250g. but my buddy was telling me last weekend that some states have their own rules on top of the FAA stuff and now im second guessing everything. i was planning to fly at a state park near me in colorado next month and i honestly dont know if thats allowed or if i need some kind of permit on top of the FAA registration. like is state park land totally different from national park land? i know you cant fly in national parks at all but state parks i thought were more of a gray area. anyone deal with this in colorado specifically or know how this works in general

yeah this trips a lot of people up. so the short version is FAA registration covers you federally but states and even individual park systems can layer their own rules on top of that. colorado state parks specifically have a blanket no drone policy unless you get a special use permit, which you have to apply for ahead of time and they can just say no. it's not the same as national parks where its a hard federal ban but practically speaking its pretty restrictive. your best bet is to just call the specific park directly because enforcement is super inconsistent and some rangers dont even know the rules themselves. i flew at chatfield once and nobody said anything but i also wasnt doing anything dumb about it

wait i didnt know colorado had that rule, i've been flying at state parks there assuming it was fine as long as i stayed under 400ft and away from people. gonna have to look into this more now. does anyone know if there's like a single place to check all 50 states or do you just have to google each one individually every time
