I'm finally taking the plunge and starting my drone inspection business after months of research. Currently trying to decide on business structure and getting conflicting advice from friends. Is an LLC worth the extra paperwork and costs for a solo drone pilot?

My main concerns are:

• Personal liability protection (especially important with drones)
• Tax implications
• Professional credibility with clients
• Insurance requirements differences

For sole proprietorships, the start-up process is simple, but you face unlimited personal liability. Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) provide a balance, shielding your personal assets while offering some flexibility - that liability protection alone makes LLC worth it in our industry.

I went LLC from day one and it's been great. Clients definitely take you more seriously and it makes banking/contracts much cleaner. The paperwork really isn't that bad once you get it set up. Cost me about $200 in my state plus annual fees.

Honestly, if you're just starting out and doing basic real estate work, sole proprietor is fine initially. You can open a business bank account to keep your business and personal finances separate. The biggest benefit is making it easier to deduct business expenses come tax time
