this has been driving me insane for like two weeks. trying to update my air 2s to the latest firmware and every single time i use DJI assistant 2 it gets to somewhere between 60-80% and then just hangs. the progress bar stops moving, the drone stays connected, but nothing happens. waited 20 minutes once thinking maybe it was just slow and eventually the whole thing errored out.

tried different USB cables, tried a different laptop, tried running assistant as administrator. uninstalled and reinstalled assistant twice. the drone itself works fine on the old firmware, no issues flying it, but i want the new features and also i feel like i should be on current firmware for safety reasons anyway.

running windows 11 if that makes any difference. not sure if this is a known thing or if somethings weird with my specific setup.

windows 11 and DJI assistant 2 have had issues for a while, theres something with how certain USB power management settings interact with the connection during long transfers. go into device manager, find your USB controllers, and disable the power saving option that lets windows turn off the device to save power. sounds unrelated but it fixed exactly this problem for me and a few other people ive seen mention it.

also make sure youre plugging directly into a port on the motherboard and not a hub, even a powered one can cause weirdness.

alternatively you can just update through the fly app on your phone with the drone connected via the RC or your phone directly. i basically stopped using assistant 2 for firmware a while back, it feels like DJI kind of deprioritizes maintaining it properly. the in-app update is slower but ive never had it fail on me the same way assistant does.
