this has been bugging me for a while and im not sure if its my unit or something im doing wrong. flying my evo ii pro and i get signal dropouts starting around like 800 meters sometimes even less, especially when theres any kind of treeline or structure between me and the drone. i know line of sight is a thing but my buddy flies his in similar conditions and hes getting way further before any issues.

i updated the firmware a few weeks ago and it might have actually gotten slightly worse but that could be my imagination. anybody dealt with this or know what to check first? im not super technical but im not a complete beginner either

check your controller antennas first, sounds obvious but make sure theyre oriented right relative to where the drone is. a lot of people keep them pointing straight up the whole time but you actually want the flat face of the antenna perpendicular to the aircraft. also worth checking if theres any interference near where you usually fly, 2.4 vs 5.8 ghz switching can make a big difference depending on the environment.

also which firmware version are you on exactly? there was a specific update a while back that people reported messed with signal handling and autel did push a fix but i dont remember the version numbers off the top of my head. might be worth checking the autel subreddit, theres usually someone who tracks that stuff obsessively

mines been solid tbh but i fly mostly open beach and flat farmland so probably not comparable to what youre dealing with. one thing i did notice is that the range got noticeably better after i did a full controller calibration, not the drone calibration but specifically the controller. dont ask me why that would affect rf range but it seemed to help for me anyway. worth a shot before you do anything drastic
