did anyone catch the new FAA remote ID enforcement stuff? feels like things are changing fast

so ive been loosely following the remote ID rollout for a while now and it seems like they're actually starting to get serious about enforcement this year. saw a few posts on reddit and some news bits about inspectors at parks and stuff. i fly mostly recreational out at a field about 20 mins from my house and honestly i just want to make sure im not gonna get a fine or whatever without realizing it.

my mavic 3 already has remote ID built in so i think im fine but my older phantom 4 doesnt and i use that one sometimes when the wind is picking up because i trust it more in those conditions. do i need to go buy one of those broadcast modules for it or just stop flying it at anything other than a FRIA? genuinely confused about where the lines are drawn now. anyone been keeping up with this more closely than me?

yeah the enforcement side of things has definitely been ramping up, not super aggressively yet but you can tell the FAA means business now that the grace period is long gone. for your phantom situatio

yeah the enforcement side of things has definitely been ramping up, not super aggressively yet but you can tell the FAA means business now that the grace period is long gone. for your phantom situation ? if youre flying outside a FRIA then yeah technically you need a remote ID broadcast module on it. there are a few options, the Dronetag Mini and the RID module from Fly Dragon Drone Tech come up a lot. they just attach and broadcast your position separately from the drone itself. its not the cleanest solution but it works and keeps you legal.

the FRIA angle is worth looking into too, a lot of flying clubs have gotten their fields designated so if theres an AMA club nearby that might be worth checking out. personally i just added a module to my older bird and stopped worrying about it, peace of mind is worth the 50-60 bucks honestly.

i had the same question a few months back when i started flying again after a long break. the remote ID stuff is a lot less scary once you actually read through it, the FAA website has a pretty decent plain-english breakdown if you havent looked there yet. the thing that confused me most was the FRIA definition and what counts as a recognized flying area ? turns out theres not as many of them as youd hope near populated areas.
