DJI Neo thoughts ? seems almost too simple for the price?

  • Members

okay so the DJI Neo has been out for a little while now and i finally got to mess around with one that my buddy brought to our last meetup. first impression is that its genuinely tiny and the whole no-controller thing where you can just fly it from your phone is kind of wild to actually see in person versus reading about it. but i kept thinking the whole time ? who is this actually for?

like the footage looked decent for the size, no complaints there, but the wind resistance was pretty noticeable even in light breeze conditions. my buddy said it kept drifting and he had to fight it a bit. for the price point you could almost stretch to a mini 4 pro and get something way more capable. i dunno, feels like DJI is really going after the content creator / selfie crowd here and maybe thats fine but it felt like a toy compared to everything else in the lineup. curious if anyone here actually bought one and uses it regularly or if it's mostly sitting in a drawer after the novelty wore off.

i actually picked one up mostly out of curiosity and yeah the wind thing is real, anything above like 10-12mph and its working hard to hold position. that said i've been using it more than I expected to? the weightless carry factor is genuinely useful when im hiking and dont want to lug my air 3. toss it in a jacket pocket and go. the footage isnt going to win any awards but for casual stuff or planning shots before i set up a bigger bird its been handy. definitely not for serious work though, you're right about that.

the selfie drone market is wierd to me in general, like insta360 has been doing the whole follow-me autonomous thing for a while and their sphere drones are kind of in their own category. i wonder how the Neo stacks up against the GO 3S from them because on paper they're going after the same buyer. havent flown either one side by side but seems like a comparison someone should do if they havent already
