So ive been flying the DJI FPV drone since basically launch, got pretty comfortable with it in normal and sport mode, even started messing around in manual a bit with the motion controller which honestly is more fun than i expected. But ive been eyeing the Avata for a while now and wondering if the switch actually makes sense or if im just falling for the hype.

The thing that gets me is the size difference ? the Avata is so much more packable and the O3 Air unit on it seems solid, but i feel like i'd miss the raw speed of the FPV drone. Like the Avata tops out at what, 97kph vs the FPV's 140kph? For someone who does mostly proximity flying through trees and around structures that probably doesnt matter as much but still.

Anyone actually run both? Is the image quality noticeably different through the goggles or is it basically the same feed? And does the Avata hold up in any kind of wind, that's the other thing ive heard mixed stuff about.

ran both for about 6 months before selling the original FPV. honestly the speed thing matters a lot less than you'd think once you're actually flying proximity, you're never going anywhere near top speed anyway. the Avata just feels more nimble in tight spots, the ducted props help with confidence near obstacles even if they limit some of the raw freestyle potential.

image quality through the goggles v2 is pretty comparable, maybe slight edge to the FPV drone in high contrast situations but nothing that would make or break a session. wind is the real weakness though, anything above like 25-30kph and you'll feel it. not unflyable but you're working harder and the footage shows it. if you fly in gusty spots regularly id keep the bigger drone around for those days.

the motion controller with the Avata is genuinely different from using it with the FPV drone, feels way more natural because the drone is lighter and responds faster to the wrist movements. i switched about 8 months ago and dont really miss the original. only complaint is battery life on the Avata is kinda short if youre doing active flying, i basically need 4-5 batteries for a decent session which gets expensive fast.
