finally picked up an EVO Lite+ after going back and forth forever ? some thoughts

so ive been flying a Mini 2 for about a year and a half and honestly loved it but kept bumping into the sensor limitations in tricky lighting situations. a buddy of mine had the EVO Lite+ and let me fly it for an afternoon a few months back and i was pretty blown away by the 1/1.9" sensor on that thing, especially at dusk. anyway i finally pulled the trigger last week during a sale and have about 4 flights on it now.

first impressions ? the app (Autel Sky) is... okay. not as polished as DJI Fly but it gets the job done and ive had zero connectivity issues so far which i know some people have complained about. the image quality in low light is genuinely better than what i was getting with the Mini 2, no contest there. footage at golden hour is really nice and i like that i dont have to fight the camera as much to get something usable.

one thing that surprised me is how much bigger it feels in the hand. i knew the specs but still. folded up its fine but unfolded its just a noticeably chunkier machine. not a complaint really just an adjustment. also the stock ND filters it came with are pretty thin quality, already looking at the Freewell set for this thing.

anyone else running this bird? curious what settings people are dialing in for video, i've been shooting in Autel's log profile but still figuring out the right exposure comp

welcome to the EVO club haha. yeah the Autel Sky app has gotten better over the last year or so, earlier versions were kind of rough around the edges but they've pushed a few updates that helped. i'd say give it a few more flights before judging it too hard.

for the log profile ? i shoot EVO Log and keep my ISO as low as i can get away with, usually 100-200 in decent light, and i slightly underexpose by like -0.3 to -0.7 depending on the scene. highlights recover really well in post that way. if you're on Davinci the Autel log LUT that floats around on their forums is a decent starting point, not perfect but saves you some time. the Freewell kit is definitely worth it, same thing i did almost immediately after getting mine.

i was in the exact same situation debating between sticking with dji ecosystem or trying the EVO Lite+. ended up staying with DJI just because i already had a bunch of accessories and the obstacle avoidance on the EVO Lite (not the +) felt a little basic to me from what i read. but honestly the sensor on the Lite+ always makes me second guess that decision when i see footage from it. maybe someday. let us know how you get on with it after a few more weeks
