ok so ive been flying dji o3 for about a year and a half and honestly the video quality is amazing but im getting really tired of the latency creeping in on fast proximity flying. a buddy of mine flies analog with fat shark dominator v3s and when i tried them at the field last weekend i was genuinely surprised how snappy it felt. like obviously the picture quality is nowhere close but there was something about the responsiveness that just felt more connected to the aircraft.

anyway im seriously considering picking up a set of fat sharks or maybe the skyzone 04x for analog and just running a dedicated analog quad for gates and proximity. my question is more about the VTX side of things ? does it actually matter that much which transmitter i run as long as im on 5.8? ive been reading about the TBS unify pro and the rushFPV, are they actually meaningfully different or is it more about the antenna setup? because ive also been seeing people swear by lollipop antennas vs cloverleafs and i genuinely cant tell if thats a real difference or just forum mythology at this point

the latency thing is real, analog will always win there, its just physics. on the VTX question though ? yes it does matter, not all 5.8 transmitters are created equal even at the same rated power output. the TBS unify pro32 HV is genuinely cleaner signal than a lot of the budget stuff, you can tell in marginal conditions especially. that said if youre flying gates at a field with decent clearance you probably wont notice a difference between a good $20 vtx and the TBS until you push range or fly in a noisy RF environment.

the antenna debate is absolutely real though and not mythology. a well-made lollipop or a genuine TrueRC antenna vs a cheap cloverleaf from some random ali seller is a meaningful difference. the cheap ones have inconsistent VSWR, sometimes the polarization is just slightly off from manufacturing variance, and you can see it in your signal quality. i personally run TrueRC singularity on the quad and a patch+omni diversity setup on the goggles for anything serious. if youre just bashing around do whatever but dont cheap out on both ends at the same time

skyzone 04x is sick for the price btw, the OLED panels on those are way better than the older fat shark screens imo. i switched maybe 8 months ago and havent looked back. just make sure you get a proper receiver module for it, the built in one is fine but a rapidfire or fusion module makes a noticeable difference if you care about diversity
