twig xl vs crux35 for someone who just wants to go fast and not think about it

  • Members

ok so context: i have a 5inch that i love and a tiny whoop for indoor stuff but theres this whole middle ground of like parks and slightly tight spaces where neither feels right. been looking at the 3.5 inch class for a while and it basically comes down to these two from what i can tell unless im missing something obvious

the crux35 seems to pop up more in videos but i dont know if thats just because its been around longer. the twig xl has those longer arms which i think helps with prop wash? or maybe im making that up. anyway i dont want to spend forever tuning a new quad, i just want to charge it and fly. which one is more plug and play in terms of the betaflight setup and also which one is tougher because ill definitely be hitting trees

running walksnail avatar if that changes anything about which one makes more sense

had a crux35 for about 6 months, its a good little ripper but i wont lie the stock tune had some propwash issues in fast direction changes, nothing unrideable but you notice it. emax pushed a tune update at some point that helped a lot so make sure you grab that. durability is actually pretty good considering how light it is, ive binned it into trees plenty of times and only had to replace an arm once

never flown the twig xl personally so cant really compare directly but everything ive heard is that its a bit more floaty which some people love for freestyle but if you want to go fast and snap around it might feel a little loose. for walksnail the crux35 fits the unit fine, i run a similar setup

tbh both are gonna need at least some tuning, there isnt really a 3.5 inch prebuilt that you can just rip straight out of the box and have it feel dialed. thats just kind of the reality of that size class. the crux35 has more community support which means more tune files floating around and more people who can help you when something feels off. twig xl is newer so less of that but the hardware design is genuinely better imo. if plug and play is really the priority maybe look at what someone is running on youtube and just copy their diff all, thats usually quicker than trying to tune from scratch
