ok so this was kind of embarrassing. drove like 45 minutes to this viewpoint near skogafoss because ive seen so many shots from there and the weather was finally clearing up. pulled out the mavic and this ranger or park official or whatever just appeared out of nowhere and told me the whole area around the falls is restricted. i had no idea, the airspace map on the dji app didnt show anything obvious to me but apparently there are rules specific to the national park that arent fully reflected in the app. had to pack up and just take photos with my phone like a tourist. lesson learned i guess, do more research before you just assume the app is telling you everything

yeah the dji fly app is honestly not reliable for checking if somewhere is actually legal to fly, it misses a tone of local regulations especially in europe. i use drone assist and also just check the actual national park websites manually now before any trip. bit more work but beats getting your gear confiscated

oof that sucks. was the ranger cool about it or did he make a big deal of it? ive heard iceland can be pretty strict since so many people show up with drones now and the overtourism thing is a real issue there apperently
